Why did the Framers' value judicial review so dearly? What was at stake?

Judical review gave the American republic a truer balance of power among the Executive, Legislative, and Judical branches of government. The case is remembered for the first time the high court held an act of Congress unconstitutional. It didn't happen again until the Dred Scott decision.
